Cavitation in thermoplastic melts: New insights into ultrasound-assisted fibre-impregnation

نویسندگان

چکیده

The impregnation of continuous carbon fibre roving with thermoplastic melt is a challenging task due to the high viscosity and surface tension melt. A new technique under development utilizing ultrasonic oscillations within which encloses roving, achieve impregnation. Despite processing being very efficient, specific conditions created in have never been studied before. This study investigated whether cavitation effects could be present during ultrasound-assisted observed acoustic allowed us suggest possible underlying mechanisms. For purpose melt-bath setup polylactide was built. To detect parameters calibrated high-temperature cavitometer used. results showed formation small zones direct vicinity sonotrode tip where would positioned. Therefore, occurrence established, induced like shock waves, microjets microstreaming should further considered for detailed investigation mechanism.

Synchrotron quantification of ultrasound cavitation and bubble dynamics in Al-10Cu melts.

Knowledge of the kinetics of gas bubble formation and evolution under cavitation conditions in molten alloys is important for the control casting defects such as porosity and dissolved hydrogen. Using in situ synchrotron X-ray radiography, we studied the dynamic behaviour of ultrasonic cavitation gas bubbles in a molten Al-10 wt%Cu alloy. The size distribution, average radius and growth rate of...

New insights into the mechanisms of water-stress-induced cavitation in conifers.

Cavitation resistance is a key parameter to understand tree drought tolerance but little is known about the mechanisms of air entry into xylem conduits. For conifers three mechanisms have been proposed: (1) a rupture of pit margo microfibrils, (2) a displacement of the pit torus from its normal sealing position over the pit aperture, and (3) a rupture of an air-water menisci in a pore of the pi...

New Insights into the Effect of Diabetes and Obesity in Alzheimer’s Disease

Abstract Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in elderly people. The prevalence of Alzheimer diseases is increasing in the world due to population aging. Metabolic disease such as diabetes and obesity play important role in Alzheimer disease. Hyperglycemia can play important role in brain damage. It causes cognitive impairments, functional and structural alterations in...

Induction of secondary axis in hydra revisited: New insights into pattern formation

In 1909, several years before the famous `Organizer’ experiments of Spemann and Mangold, Ethel Browne demonstrated induction of a secondary axis in hydra by grafting a hypostome. Based on this and subsequent work, in the late sixties, Lewis Wolpert proposed the theory of morphogen gradients and positional information. We have studied secondary axis induction by hypostome and foot tissue using t...

Ultrasound-Assisted Biodiesel Production in microreactors

The ultrasound-assisted (UA) soybean oil methanolysis using KOH as a catalyst was studied at different reaction conditions in a microreactor. Box–Behnken experimental design, with three variables, was performed and the effects of three reaction variables i.e. reaction temperature, catalyst concentration and the methanol-to-oil molar ratio on fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) yield were evaluated b...
